Meet Ibrahim, a London-based computer engineer who traded his daily commute for overlanding, breathtaking landscapes and the open road. We caught up with him to learn about his adventures, the challenges he's faced, and the incredible experiences he's gained.
Here is a short conversation with Ibrahim about himself, his journey and experiences.
My name is Ibrahim, and I’m based in London. I’m a computer engineer working as an IT professional. Beyond my profession, I am deeply passionate about nature and the outdoors.
I’ve always loved spending time in nature after work—it’s a huge part of my life, and I’ve always sought different ways to experience it. Eventually, I wanted to explore the world without giving up my job, and overlanding turned out to be the perfect solution. It allows me to take my time, continue working remotely, and embrace a new lifestyle while exploring. It felt like a natural fit and an incredibly cool way to live.
Honestly, I don’t think I’ve lost anything significant—if I’ve misplaced any equipment, I don’t even remember it. On the other hand, I’ve gained so much: I’ve discovered new cultures, made lifelong friends, tasted unique cuisines, and experienced breathtaking natural beauty.
The biggest challenge was figuring out the right equipment. I kept asking myself, “What do you really need?” Once I answered that question, I focused on getting the correct gear to suit my needs. It was also a learning process, but staying practical and focused made it manageable.
I drive a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon JLU, which was my dream car. I wanted to create meaningful memories with it, and it has proven to be the perfect companion for my journey.
My primary focus was comfort since I planned to work remotely during my travels. I needed a setup that would provide a comfortable workspace and relaxing quarters after a day of work in the wilderness. Every piece of equipment had to be both functional and comfortable. Durability was also critical—I wanted gear that could withstand extreme conditions without fail.
My absolute essentials are my coffee maker, my working table for my PC, and my Tailgate trunk organizer. These items are central to both my work and relaxation on the road.
My first priority is to make a cup of coffee and enjoy it while taking in a beautiful view. Eating comes later—it’s something I do out of necessity rather than for pleasure. However, I do spend most of my time at the trunk of my car, where I have two tables set up. It’s where I eat, drink, or even watch a football game. The trunk setup is where I keep everything I need, organized in drawers, making it the most functional and comfortable part of my car.
One of my most memorable experiences was meeting an elderly woman from Switzerland who was also overlanding. She told me, “This might be the last blue sky I see,” and it struck a chord with me. For her, every new day was a gift, and it made me appreciate the privilege of seeing a new blue sky in a different country. It’s moments like these that make overlanding truly special.
I started my journey as one person and know I’ll be someone completely different by the end. I’ve learned so much from the people I’ve met and the cultures I’ve encountered. These experiences have taught me the importance of continuous exploration, and they’ve made me a freer and more respectful individual.
First, don’t over-plan. Flexibility is key to enjoying the journey. Second, cherish your equipment—it will be your closest travel companion throughout the adventure.
There are still many countries I haven’t visited, particularly in Africa and Asia. Exploring those regions is next on my list.

The build and materials quality is absolutely superb. Way better than most of the products available here. Because it uses the airline track for mounting in the Grenadier, it is a simple job to remove it when not needed.
I wanted to fit a 50l fridge onto the drawer/slide combination from Tailgate in my Grenadier. The space was tight, but Stefano had some special brackets fabricated to give me enough headroom for the Evakool. The shelf is great quality and I've gained a huge amount of usable space. Very happy.

Alles bestens, von der Bestellung zur Lieferung.
Und auch besonders die Qualität der Bearbeitung!!
Und ach das Service!
Have to say off the bat I am very satisfied with the product and service from Stefano.
I have a 2 door 2019 Jeep Rubicon and trying to find a supplier that makes parts for a 2 door is a nightmare. Tailgate not only makes a platform base for my Jeep but were prepared to custom build a wide draw unit that is longer than standard. This unit goes all the way to the seat backs.
Fit and finish are excellent and comms about build time and delivery were outstanding.
As we are now out of the EU I won’t dwell on import tax and VAT but they must be factored in if buying in the UK.
Installation takes just a few minutes, after working out how to remove the drawers, and takes initially 2 people. This is more about the size than the weight. For the price, perhaps would have been nice to include an Allen key due to space constraints. I ended up cutting one of mine to fit the space.
Overall, a great fitting product, mated to the specific platform.
Now in discussion about a bespoke fridge slider but that’s another post.
This extremely solid, well constructed, and nice looking kitchen combo is the perfect add-on for my Jeep Wrangler. Easily installed, and fits perfect. 👌🏼
This kind of high quality material is what you need when you go overlanding.
Keep up the good work team tailgategear! 💪🏼🙌🏼
The Quality and fit is Perfect.

Great design with a durable coating. The flaps are undoubtedly of high quality and craftsmanship.
Nothing more needs to be said... worth every penny.
Last but not least: the customer service is outstanding. If you have any questions, Stefano takes the time and knowledge to find a perfect solution for your needs.

Very happy with purchase
Mega easy to fit, superb build quality. Really compliments my Jeep Wrangler JL overland set-up.
Great quality table!
Especially the wooden pullout board is more stable, than others i have seen.
It’s a great solution for my canopy camper.
Thank you for the great customer support.
Consiglio per chi ha spazi ridotti ma ha bisogno di ottimizzare al meglio la camperizzazione.
Materiale ottimo e molto resistente.
Consiglio vivamente a tutti.
